US Secretary John Kerry meets Salman Khurshid

New Delhi: US Secretary of State John Kerry met External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on Monday. Kerry is in New Delhi for his first strategic dialogue with India after taking office. He is co-chairing a strategic dialogue with Khurshid on various issues including India's relations with Pakistan.

Kerry will also push the offer of sellign equipment to the Indian military for trial before actually placing any orders. On Sunday, he also harped on India's role in the upcoming Afghanistan elections. He has kicked off his trip saying India should improve trade ties with Pakistan.

Kerry, who arrived on Sunday evening accompanied by a high-level delegation, clearly expressed American concerns on various issues including providing greater access to Indian markets, Intellectual property rights and the need for "full" implementation of the Indo-US civil nuclear deal. His visit coincided with the announcement by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to invest USD 100 million in India's burgeoning clean energy sector.

In view of the US offering to hold talks with the Taliban and Kerry's recent visit to Doha, India might pose some questiosn over it. There can be a stronger push for extradition of 26/11 Mumbai attacks convicts David Headley and Tahawwur Hussain Rana and visa, immigration reforms will also be on the agenda.
