New Delhi: The United States will most likely have its first high level contact with Iran — which has been under pressure for its alleged development of nuclear weapons — in over two years.
While the US has confirmed its participation, Iran is considering the invite. Syria has also been invited to the conference scheduled for the first half of March.
The discussions will be a part of an international conference on the Iraqi security crisis to be held on March 10.
More engagement with Iraq's regional rivals is a policy recommendation of the Iraq Study Group and will mark a shift in President George W Bush's own policy of avoiding direct contact with Tehran and Damascus.
