New Delhi: USA lost the CONCACAF Gold Cup final, thrashed 5-0 in the final by Mexico. Inspired by England-based stars Giovani Dos Santos and Carlos Vela, the El Tri ran rampant in the second half, scoring five times in the space of only 34 minutes.
The loss ended a 58-game unbeaten streak for the US at home against opponents from football's CONCACAF region.
Mexico had earlier beaten Costa Rica on penalties in a tense semi-final to reach the final where they will played the US - who were 2-0 victors over Honduras.
Costa Rica's Froylan Ledezma went from hero to villain, equalising in injury time at 1-1 but then missing the penalty in the shootout that cost his team a place in the final.
In the earlier semi-final, goals from Clarence Goodson and Kenny Cooper took the United States into the final of the tournament, for North and Central America and the Caribbean teams, for the third consecutive edition.
