Maa Durga at the host's abode

Kolkata: For the members of the Saha family, who live in the northern fringes of Kolkata, memories of their homebound journey on Thursday along with Goddess Durga would be treasured through generations.

That's because Ma Durga has returned to their household after a break of 40 years. The puja had stopped when the family migrated from Dhaka in the late 1950s. No wonder they are ecstatic.

"We are feeling very happy. Even the younger members of our family have come to take Ma Durga home. And back home people are waiting eagerly for Ma to arrive," said Goutam Saha.

As expected, the Goddess received a traditional welcome from the ladies in the family. And it's a burden of love that the men in the family are more than happy to bear.

Finally, Ma Durga and her children were seated at their designated places. For the residents of Sahabari, it would be fun, frolic and celebration for the next few days.

The biggest carnival of eastern India, Durga Puja, has kicked off in grand style. Goddess Durga shifted base from the studios of artisans in Kolkata's Kumartuli to the abode of her respective hosts on Thursday evening. She will reside there for the next four days.
