Uttar Pradesh: Jilted lover sets girl on fire in Moradabad, flees

Moradabad: A young girl was set on fire by a jilted lover in Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. The police say that the accused lured the girl into his house where he tried to coerce her to marry him.

When she refused, he and his friends poured kerosene on her and set her ablaze. The girl is fighting 35 to 50 per cent burns at a local hospital. She has recorded her statement before a magistrate.

As the parents and other family members of the girl rushed to rescue her, the assailants fled. The girl's father informed police after which a first information report (FIR) was filed against the three attackers.

No arrests have been made so far as the police continue to be on the lookout for the two main accused. "The girl was set on fire. According to the complaint filed the girl was being forced to get married and when she refused the jilted lover, his friend and his father set her on fire," a police official said.
