Vaiko arrested for flouting Karuna's rally ba

New Delhi: MDMK leader Vaiko and Tamil National Movement leader P Neduraman have been arrested in Chennai on Monday.

The MDMK leader and his followers were arrested for taking out a rally condemning LTTE political wing leader S P Tamizchelvan's killing, despite the fact that the party workers had earlier been denied permission for taking out the rally.

Raising pro-LTTE and Tamil Eelam slogans, Vaiko charged the Manmohan Singh led UPA government at the Centre with "supplying arms to the Sri Lankan army, which are being used against innocent Tamils."

"We have gathered here to express not only the feelings of Tamils in Tamil Nadu but all over the world," Vaiko said.

Nedumaran also condemned the 'fascist rule' in Tamil Nadu for denying permission to the rally.

Over 300 protesters, including Vaiko and Nedumaran carried pictures of Tamizchelvan and other LTTE cadre who were killed in the air raid.

The arrests come days in the wake of the Congress Union ministers' criticism of Karunaidhi for composing a poem to mark the slain leader's death.

Vaiko also strongly criticised the Tamil Nadu government for refusing to grant permission to take out the rally and demanded to know why the DMK patriarch had penned a eulogy on the leader's death.

Vaiko has been remanded to 15 days judicial custody.

Jayalalithaa has also threatened to move the Supreme Court against Karunaidhi for writing Tamizhchelvan's eulogy.
