Varanasi: As the government gets ready to present its anti-rape Bill in Parliament, first arrest for stalking under the amended section of the Indian Penal Code was made in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi on Saturday. A Mumbai police team arrested a man accused of stalking a woman, even after she moved to Mumbai.
The 20-year-old student has been arrested under section 354 D for stalking a woman. The accused had been calling the woman and making lewd comments ever since she got married and moved to Mumbai.
A case against him was registered post which, a police team was sent to Varanasi. Police said the case will act as a deterrent because earlier, stalking was a non-bailable offence. The accused will be in police custody for three days and will be produced in the Sessions Court on Monday.
