Pilibhit: He seems to be the Sangh parivar's latest poster boy. Varun Gandhi, who has courted controversy with his alleged hate speech is now with his lawyers withdrawing his plea for anticipatory bail from Delhi high court on Friday.
He is taking the next step to political stardom, getting arrested and he will do that in style in full public view in Pilibhit in the next 24 hours.
Varun doesn't want to escape the law; there are multiple FIRs pending against him. Legally, the options for Varun are limited especially after Allahabad High Court refused to quash the FIR against him last Tuesday.
Now sources say Varun will surrender in Pilibhit and then seek bail from the lower court
“We will have to respect the report filed by the election commission,” says B K Gupta.
Varun has now chosen to play victim trying to extract as much sympathy as possible from a polarized electorate. On Friday morning the RSS even took out a rally hailing Varun as the new saffron hero. The speech has almost given Varun the status of a junior Narendra Modi
“If Varun is saying that he did not make the hate speech there is no reason to hold him guilty,” says BJP president Rajnath Singh.
Almost a non entity a month ago, Varun Gandhi is now the focus point of every political debate. And by withdrawing his bail application he has made it clear that he is running for more.
