Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily said on Sunday that he was considering a judicial reform bill which will help in fastening judicial proceedings and lay down standards for lawyers and judges.
CNN-IBN: What exactly is this judicial reforms bill you have been talking about?
M Veerappa Moily: I have spoken about several things. One part is that we will bring out the Judges Standards and Accountability Bill to replace the Judges Enquiry Act of 1968. The idea is that certain standards should be put on judges and accountability will have to be prescribed. This bill is already prepared and go to Cabinet shortly, next session it'll come up.
CNN-IBN: Will it also become easier for impeachment proceedings later on?
M Veerappa Moily: No, there's only one procedure and that is impeachment. This will provide many channels of enquiry and also laying down standards of accountability so that things won't take much time.
CNN-IBN: What about tainted judges, their background checks and making things transparent as far as their accountability is concerned?
M Veerappa Moily: That will also happen with this bill.
CNN-IBN: This has anything to do with P D Dinakaran case?
M Veerappa Moily: No. The bill was planned quite before Dinakaran case came up.
