VELLORE: The Tamil Nadu Government Doctors Association (TNGDA) is conducting its 13th State conference at the Government Medical College here on Sunday.

According to state president of the association Dr K Senthil, Health Minister Dr Vijay would inaugurate a tree planting programme on the occasion. The association plans to plant 15,000 saplings on all government hospital premises.

Senthil said the association had been fighting for the cause of doctors for the past five decades. It has motivated member doctors to ensure that benefits of every government scheme reached beneficiaries. The association has strived to make Tamil Nadu a model State in the country, he added.

As part of the conference, a committee would be formed to formulate a protocol for the issuance of medical certificates by the doctors to government employees, based on pre-diagnostic period of 5 to 10 days and investigations/ in-patient treatment. Right now, there is no protocol and  because of this, the system was being misused, Senthil noted.

Over 1,000 doctors are expected to attend the conference.
