Vengsarkar says no need of seniors

New Delhi: The selection of the Indian One-Day team for the triangular series in Australia has generated a lot of debate after two former skippers - Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid - were not named in the 16-member squad.

Chairman of the Selection Committee Dilip Vengsarkar has, however, justified the selections for the triangular series saying there is a need for a new look team.

"Why should we select players who have got just one or two years left to play. We want to build a India cricket team for the future," Vengasarkar said in Mumbai on Tuesday.

There are speculations that ODI skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni wanted younger players in the team and so Ganguly and Dravid were not picked.

The Cricket Association of Bengal Joint Secretary Samar Pal, too, blamed Dhoni for Ganguly's ouster.

"What has been done is totally wrong, grave injustice is being done to him. It seems Dhoni did not want him in the side. Dhoni is more comfortable with juniors so he is in favour of axing seniors. But we will not sit idle. We will lodge a strong protest," Pal said.
