Verdict in Dhaula Kuan gangrape case today

New Delhi: It's been almost five years since a 20-year-old student from Mizoram was allegedly abducted and gang-raped in Delhi's Dhaula Kuan area.

The main accused was booked for abduction, rape, criminal intimidation and for administering sedatives to the victim.

Now a Delhi court is set to pronounce a verdict in the case.

The incident took place on May 8, 2005, when the student from Mizoram was allegedly abducted from a roadside eatery and later gang-raped in a moving car and then dumped near a gurudwara.

A massive manhunt was launched as the police came under tremendous pressure from the media and several North-Eastern groups. The police released sketches of the accused based on eyewitness accounts.

A week later the main accused Ajit Katiyar was arrested and later identified by the victim.

In March 2008, an FSL report confirmed that the victim had been given sedatives at the time of the incident

But till now the police have neither been able to arrest his three accomplices or get hold of the two cars used in the crime.

The prosecution has examined 31 witnesses in the case. Katiyar's counsel has argued that the victim and policemen of the Delhi Cantonment Police Station gave contradictory statements regarding the offence and arrest of the accused.

The 20-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and gangraped in May 2005.
