TIRUMALA: Being a role model to many youth, Indian cricketer V V S Laxman donned a new avatar as ‘Srivari Sevak’ and served annaprasadam to hundreds of pilgrims in Matrusri Tarigonda Vengamamba annaprasadam complex, here on Saturday.
After having darshan of Lord Venkateswara along with his family in the morning, Laxman came to know about the ‘Srivari Seva’, a voluntary service system launched by TTD 12 years ago and desired to take part in the service.
The “Very Very Special Laxman” who is used to handle the bat with aplomb and entertain his fans with match saving sixes and fours, took guard as ‘Srivari Sevak’ and served rice and curries to visiting pilgrims pleasantly surprising many who had gathered at the massive annaprasadam complex.
Later Laxman along with his family members also had annaprasadam in the Tarigonda complex. Speaking on the occasion, he said “I came to know about this great voluntary service introduced by TTD, with a noble aim, where a pilgrim serves his fellow pilgrims and participated in it. I appeal to youth to take part in this great service which clearly stands for the famous Hindu sanatana dharma dictum ‘Manava Seveye Madhava Seva’ (service to mankind is indeed service to God). TTD JEO K S Srinivasa Raju, catering officer Shastry and others were present.
