Chennai: Amid the political fallout of the violence in Madurai, the families of the three victims have almost been forgotten.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister had called for a CBI inquiry into the matter and close to 60 people were arrested, among them, the Madurai mayor Thenmozhi Gopinathan, her husband Gopinathan and the former mayor of Madurai, Kuzhandaivelu. But they are all out on bail now.

Meanwhile, in a startling admission, the Tamil Nadu police have admitted that they didn't perform their duty while the Dinakaran office was being torched.

“It’s time serious action needs to be taken and so we have asked for a departmental enquiry,” DGP, Tamil Nadu Police, D Mukherjee said.

There were nearly 45 policemen at the Dinakaran office when the violence broke out and yet it wasn't averted.

Dinakaran employees allege that the police even refused to lodge a complaint against Karunanidhi's son and DMK leader Azhagiri. Till date, no case has been filed against him.

The war rages on within the DMK and now it's become a match between the state government and the media group, Sun network, which was once their voice.

However, Dayanidhi Maran has decided to walk the tightrope and not reveal the goings-on in the family.

“I am not like other politicians and I will not make any comments on my leader or my party,” said Dayanidhi Maran, whose resignation was accepted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday.

South India's most powerful political family may be ripped apart but the larger question is whether the families of the victims of the Dinakaran tragedy will get justice.
