Bihar:Victims turn saviours for the worst-hit

Bihar: Aid is pouring in for Bihar flood victims from across the nation, but there is a group of local residents of Vaishali district, who despite being affected by the flood themselves, are ready to lend a helping hand to those displaced by the flood.

This group is driving across the town of Vaishali near Patna, gathering food, clothes, medicines and other relief material for those displaced by the flood and their appeals for generosity is often met with a generous response.

Ironically, Vaishali itself is battling with floods and the havoc caused by it.

But what's more striking is that this town does not figure on the official list of the affected districts, so there's little help from government. Against these odds, residents have come forward to do their bit.

"We have given food and clothes for the people who have been worst-hit by the floods," says a resident of Vaishali, Rekha Devi.

These small efforts by the people of Bihar to bring relief to lakhs of people hit by the floods who are worse off go a long way.
