Mumbai: A tragedy occurred in Thane after the Vidarbha Express collided with a local train, which had already got derailed near Kasara. One person died and 21 others were injured in the incident.
The Central Railways has announced Rs 5 lakh for relatives of the deceased and rs 1 lakh for the injured. Two of the injured have been admitted to the Kasara government Hospital and four others have been moved to the Nashik government Hospital, one of them is critical.
Suburban services to Kasara have been suspended till Saturday morning. Mail and express trains have been diverted to other routes.
A statement from the Central Railway late on Thursday night said that the mishap took place between Kasara and Umbermali on Kalyan Igatpuri section of Mumbai division.
"Four coaches of Kasara-CST (Mumbai) local derailed between Kasara-Umbermali on Kalyan-Igatpuri section of Mumbai Division at 21.30 hrs.
"12105 Mumbai-Gondia Vidarbha Express, which was going towards Kasara, hit the derailed coaches on the down line resulting in derailment of the engine of Vidarbha Express," said the statement.
