Mumbai: The Vidarbha Express on Thursday collided with a local train in Kasara near Mumbai, killing three and injuring at least 31 people. The Vidarbha Express, which was going towards Nagpur, collided with a local train that was already derailed.
According to reports, while a total of four bogies of the Vidarbha Express got derailed in the accident, S-9 and S-10 bogies of the train got severely damaged.
The incident occurred between Kasara and Umbarmali stations. The stations fall between Thane and Nagpur districts of Maharashtra.
A statement from the Central Railway late on Thursday night said that the mishap took place between Kasara and Umbermali on Kalyan Igatpuri section of Mumbai division.
"Four coaches of Kasara-CST (Mumbai) local derailed between Kasara-Umbermali on Kalyan-Igatpuri section of Mumbai Division at 21.30 hrs.
"12105 Mumbai-Gondia Vidarbha Express, which was going towards Kasara, hit the derailed coaches on the down line resulting in derailment of the engine of Vidarbha Express," said the statement.
