Vidarbha: Vidarbha farmers and widows have been protesting against Aamir Khan's latest film Peepli Live. They feel it trivialises the issue of farmer suicides and have demanded a ban on the film.

The angry widows of farmers who had committed suicide have set afire an effigy of actor Aamir Khan. These Vidharbha residents are incensed that Aamir's latest production Peepli Live suggests farmers commit suicide to gain compensation from the government. Farmers are now demanding that Aamir make a clarification or his film be banned.

The film's makers maintain Peepli Live's central theme is the rural urban divide. Perhaps that's why the movie has received a starkly different response in the metros.

Ironically though a film that tries to depict how politicians and journalists benefit from fuelling a controversy has now triggered one itself in the face of these farmer protests.
