Vidarbha supporters halt train, demand state

New Delhi: A pro-Vidarbha youth group started protesting for a separate Vidarbha state buy stopping the Mumbai Nagpur Vidarbha Express train for 15 minutes in Nagpur.

Some activists of the Vidarbha Youth Force blocked the railway track and forced the train to stop. They allowed the train to continue its journey after about 15 minutes.

Even senior Congress MP and former Union minister Vilas Muttemwar has come out in favour of grating statehood to Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.

Muttemwar has also written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asking him to consider the need for creation of Vidarbha state.

The region is also known as the suicide belt of Maharashtra.
