Chennai: The Income tax department conducted raids at filmstar-turned-politician Vijaykanth's residence in Chennai.

Though the outcome of the raid is not known as yet, there was stone pelting outside his residence and Vijaykanth’s supporters burnt effigies of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

Subsequently, Police security was beefed up outside Vijaykanth's residence.

The Tamil superstar had contested last Assembly elections in the state. His party, the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), which had contested the elections alone, got a significant vote share.

An income tax raid was also conducted at former chief minister O Panneerselvam's residence.

Panneerselvam is the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) deputy leader in the Assembly.
