London: Beijing bronze medallist Vijender Singh’s London Olympics dreams got over after he lost to Uzbekistan’s Abbas Atoev in a 75kg quarterfinal bout late on Monday night.
The Uzbek boxer won the the match 17-13.
Both boxers were up to it in the first round as it ended 3-3. In the second round, the Uzbek took complete control. Vijender however gave him a left hook and got him rattled, but the Uzbek recovered fast to take it 7-5.
Trailing by two points, Vijender went all out throwing punches left and right in the third and final round. However, his efforts fell short as he lost it 7-5.
Atoev will now either play Adem Kilicci or Ryota Murata.
