Nagpur: Power supply to Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh's official residence was on Tuesday disconnected for non-payment of electricity bills to the tune of Rs 1.2 lakh.

The action by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDC) comes as part of its drive to recover dues from top ten defaulters.

MSEDC officials on Tuesday disconnected power supply to 'Ramgiri', the official residence of the Chief Minister, highly placed sources said.

However, a company spokesman denied snapping of power supply to the bungalow and claimed it was those of servant's quarters located in the bungalow premises.

"Ramgiri is receiving electricity supply through different meters," he said.

Meanwhile, an engineer assigned to do the job of disconnecting power supply, said two metres were snapped following non-payment of two bills worth Rs 85,000 and Rs 35,000.

As part of the drive to recover dues from the top ten defaulters among government, semi-government and commercial offices as well as individuals, MSEDC on Tuesday disconnected 30 connections including that of a tehsildar's office, a company spokesman said.

The distribution company launched the drive to collect dues to the tune of Rs 45 lakh. Earlier it had published list of top ten defaulters in newspapers and had warned them of disruption of power supply, the spokesman said.
