Vishakhapatnam flight skids off runway

New Delhi: As many as 72 passengers onboard a Paramount Airline flight had a providential escape on Saturday as the aircraft skidded off the runway at the airport in Vishakhapatnam.

All the passengers, including two crewmembers of the flight, which was on its way to Hyderabad, escaped unhurt.

Initial reports suggested that soft earth on the flyway led to the aircraft skidding off.

According to Visakhapatnam ATC, the mishap occurred when the aircraft was taking a turn on the runway.

It was said that the pilot got confused while landing the flight and landed on the runway, which was not yet commissioned, instead of the original runway.

The aircraft went out of control from the runway and crashed into bushes.

Cranes have been commissioned to clear the flight from the runway.

While an inquiry was ordered into the incident, all the flights to the city have been cancelled for the next two days.
