Few will think of the Jetta hybrid as a record breaking car as far as achieving speed records is concerned. However, Volkswagen begs to differ.
The company intends people or prospective customers to think that not only will the Jetta hybrid be extremely fuel efficient but it will also be a fast lane tool.
A modified Jetta hybrid recently set the world record for a hybrid car by achieving a top speed of 298.3kmph on the fabled Bonneville Salt Flats.

A modified Jetta hybrid recently set the world record for a hybrid car by achieving a top speed of 298.3kmph.
Though VW haven't revealed the modifications that went into this car, visually it can be noted that there are aerodynamic wheels. VW says that the car was prepared according to SCTA rules.
The regular production Jetta hybrid uses a 150PS 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine mated to a 30PS electric motor and claims 0-100 times of 9.3 seconds. Though this record seems commendable, not so long ago, a Volvo hybrid truck had touched 265kmph.
