Jaipur: Do you want to take a peek at heritage diamonds including the Kohinoor, the Nizam and the Great Star of Africa?

You could check out their replicas at Jaipur. The stakes on the Kohinoor may still be unresolved, but if a sneak peek at the diamond is all you have always wanted to take, then Jaipur is the place to be.

Called ‘a mountain of light’ by Nadir Shah of Persia when he first saw it, the Kohinoor’s timeless appeal still remains. And two centuries down the line, onlookers at this display of rare diamond replicas echoed his sentiments.

“Where would I place them? Well, hopefully on me,” a tourist, Peitrijas quips.

The Kohinoor may have a timeless appeal but the other stones on display but a little bit of history sparkles through the other two stones as well. The Great Star of Africa is the biggest diamond of the world and the Nizam was used by the Nizam of Hyderabad as a paperweight.

And no prizes for guessing why there are more women visitors than men.

‘I would love to have friends who could afford to buy me these so that I could wear them!” exclaims a tourist, Linda.

Putting the collection together was nothing short of a labour of love for the organisers also.

The artists who created the replica researched for over a year, to get the exact cut and colour as the originals. And they got the fruit of their labour with this exhibition in Jaipur.

“Well Jaipur is known as a city of jewels and everyone knows and understands jewels here,” says a jeweler, Piyush Kothari.

They definitely don't outshine the originals, but these stones are turning out to be a major attraction at the exhibition.
