Bangalore: Former Supreme Court Judge Krishna Iyer claims that he was asked by a former judge of the Kerala High Court to not complain against former chief justice of India KG Balakrishnan regarding allegations of disproportionate wealth against Balakrishnan's son-in-law PV Srinijin.
Justice Krishna has, however, not revealed the name of the judge who approached him allegedly on behalf of Justice Balakrishnan. Eventually, Krishna Iyer did not write to the Prime Minister, but has said the former chief justice of India should resign from his current post of National Human Right Commission chairperson and face an enquiry.
Justice Iyer had also demanded a commission of enquiry not only against Balakrishnan but his family members including brother, sons-in law and daughters.
Kerala Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan said that he had already ordered for a vigilance enquiry in to the matter.
"I will treat the matter on a serious and urgent basis," said Achuthanandan.
Kerala government had on Monday set up an investigation to look into allegations of disproportionate wealth allegedly accumulated by Justice Balakrishnan's son-in-law Srinijin.
Law Minister M Veerappa Moily had on December 28 said that the matter needed to be verified.
"The demand by Justice VR Krishna Iyer... how far the former CJI, Justice Balakrishnan was involved in it. Whether he has misused his office as CJI - these matters have to be verified. Without basis I cannot speak (on it)," he said in Bangalore.
Srinijin, who had declared only assets worth Rs 25,000 in the affidavit filed in the 2006 Assembly elections (he was the Congress candidate from Njarackal,) now allegedly owns several prime properties, including a riverside plot of 2.5 acres at Annamanada in Thrissur.
He and his wife Sony are also said to have acquired a flat in the city, a plum office space near the High Court and 25 cents of land at Elamakkara (in the suburbs of Kochi) where the construction of a bungalow is in progress, according to reports.
Both Srinijin and Sony are practising advocates.
