Vadodara: Congress MP Vitthal Radadia on early Friday morning was caught on camera threatening a toll booth attendant in Gujarat's Kajran. He brandished his licensed rifle and threatened the toll booth staff after they asked him to pay the toll. The Porbander MP was incensed that the toll booth staff asked his driver for an original copy of the MP's ID card.
However, Radadia remains unrepentant. Radadia said, "The people there called me a fake MP and were threatening to assault me. I did not aim or fire at anybody. I was alone and cornered, so I just showed them the gun."
With elections just weeks away, it is an embarrassment the Congress could do without. State leaders remained silent on the incident. Meanwhile, party high command said that they are investigating the matter. Congress Spokesperson Manish Tewari said, "We have asked the Gujarat unit to give us a report."
However, the BJP state government was quick to act. Gujarat BJP Spokesperson Jaynarayan Vyas said, "Ä case has been registered against Radadia under sections of the IPC and Arms Act. The law will take its course."
It is ironic that the MP who represents Gandhiji's birthplace, Porbandar, is in news for his violent streak.
