Mumbai: The Mumbai fire department has released some rare footage taken on the night of November 28 at Mumbai's Taj hotel when NSG commandos and fire fighters battled terrorists to bring those trapped inside to safety.
This footage shows the fire fighters surrounding the Taj Hotel complex, aiming water cannons at the flames that engulfed parts of the building.
NSG commandos had to escort the fireman into the building, making it the first ever combat like situation that the brigade has had to work in.
“We were trying to douse the flames but the task required a lot of coordination. The NSG commandos had to escort us and give us cover. No doubt it was a combined effort, a high risk operation,” says Chief Fire Officer, Anil Sawant.
These firemen worked without any bullet proof vests and had to use tables to shield themselves from bullets.
The video also shows the charred remains of the fifth floor where the rescue operation continued even as grenade attacks and gun fire carried on.
The BMC has insured the lives of these heroes for Rs 1 lakh.
