Watch out, here come the stars of Bachna ae Hasino

CNN-IBN’s Entertainment Editor Rajeev Masand caught up with Bipasha Basu Basu, Deepika Padukone Padukone, Minnisha Lamba, and Ranbir Kapoor, stars of the eagerly awaited romantic movie, Bachna ae Hasino. The film has been positioned as a breezy urban romance and the stars talk about love, friendship and relationships.

.

Rajeev Masand: I don’t remember when was the last time I saw a hero being paired against three lovely ladies.

Ranbir Kapoor you must tell me what was you first reaction, a one-word reaction, when you were told that you would be paired opposite three young ladies?

Ranbir Kapoor: Lucky! Of course, because in my first film Saawariya where in the end I don’t get the lady. Salman Khan takes her. Now I have three beautiful ladies for me this time.

Rajeev Masand: Now that you have done the whole film with him, I want each of you ladies to tell us one thing about Ranbir Kapoor that none of us know.

Bipasha Basu: Well I guess Deepika knows him a lot. But during the making of the film I got to know Ranbir a little bit. The day I went on set, I found him adorable. He would stand quietly, listening to everybody. He is a sweet and charming guy. I had met him for the first time on the set.

Second day onwards we started talking, and Ranbir talks a lot, he is very good fun. I think what is nice about Ranbir is that he is extremely endearing and really adorable.

Rajeev Masand: Deepika, you have to say more.

Deepika Padukone:

Minnisha Lamba: One thing that I discovered about Ranbir Kapoor is that he is a very people’s person. He touches people’s life by being himself.

Bipasha Basu: I have to add something. A bigger compliment from my side, he reminds me of a person who is very dear to me. He reminds me of John. They both have the same appeal with the people. They are just effortless. They don’t try much and they are liked.

Rajeev Masand: Ranbir now you have to give us a first impression of all of them.

Ranbir Kapoor: My first schedule with Bipasha, I was scared because she was my first biggest co-star, superstar. Apart from being hot, and other adjectives that go with her, I think she is such a fine human being. She encouraged me, I never felt like a newcomer, we all had lunch together on set. She made me feel very comfortable.

Then of course I worked with Minnisha, apart from being a cute-bubbly-sexy person, she is more of a space cadet. She is a dreamer and is much within herself. For instance, I go to wash my hands and she is playing with the water.

In Bachna ae Hasino we got to do all the fun stuff. We rode on a scooter in Switzerland, we went on a roller coaster, and she is very daring. I am shit scared about all these things but she assures everything is fine. I had lot of fun working with her. Thank you for this opportunity.

Then of course Deepika, I knew Deepika from before, I had met her when I was shooting for Saawariya and she was shooting for Om Shanti Om. We briefly met, the media over hyped our friendship into something and we were amused. We decided to focus on our career. Co-incidentally our first movies released together and our second release was together.

Later I met her in Australia, I hadn’t really spoken to her for a long time, and she broke the ice, by buzzing me and striking a conversation.

She is just a truly amazing person, apart from being supremely talented, extremely beautiful, and such a fine human being, She is extremely hardworking and ambitious.

She knows what she wants, she is just 22 and she has achieved so much. I am so happy and proud of her.

Thank you so much, I hope I can do more movies with you.

Rajeev Masand: I have to ask, it always happens when multi-starrers are made, there is the usual rumour of actors not getting along, strangely this is the only film where 4 of you, never worked together at the same time other than the title track, but there were still rumours. Where did they come from?

Bipasha Basu: This happened when we went for the publicity of the film, we went for a show. We had committed 4 hrs but we ended up spending 12 hours. We really had great fun there. I don’t know where it came from. The next day it was all in the papers. And it is sad because we got along, whatever time we spent together- we laugh, we joke, and I decided this time, that not always we can allow people to make it awkward for us.

Rajeev Masand: Can two leading ladies be friends?

Deepika Padukone: Of course! It is very unfair to generalise. May be there have been actors in the past who were not the best of friends, but not us.

Bipasha Basu: Also in a profession where two actresses do not spend much time together, we are good friends, and we had a good time. She is a lovely girl. Both of us like to have fun, we laugh, we eat etc. I am sure it’s just the time factor else I would have many more girlfriends in the industry.

Rajeev Masand: Bipasha, as someone who met her boyfriend on the sets, what’s you advice or tip for Deepika and Ranbir, who have to now deal with things like intrusion, curiosity, pressures, being exploited by the industry. What do you have to tell them?

Bipasha Basu : I think the pressure starts in the beginning itself. At the end of the day, it is all about honesty in your relationship, and how much faith you have in your partner you have to be companions. What the world says is a different thing, but it is about what you have between yourself. I guess you have to be fiercely protective about certain things.

Rajeev Masand: Is it hard, Deepika?

Deepika Padukone: A little bit, but I am one film old and It is the same media, which has given me so much importance, introduced me to my audiences and my fans. So this is the part of what I have chosen to do and it is ok.

Rajeev Masand: Manisha, is that the reason why you are still single. Because you don’t want to deal with all the intrusion?

Minnisha Lamba: Love is not something that you go to a shop and buy. It just happens, and when it happens you want to keep it a secret, unless you want to come out, hold hands and start walking, and let the whole world know about it. Until then it is truly reserved.

Rajeev Masand: Now we have a few questions from the audience

Bipasha Basu, Who is the most interesting co-star?

Bipasha Basu: I have to tell the truth: John is the most boring co-star I have worked with. Abhishek Bachchan, he has been my most favourite co-star, because he is like me. We both share the same madness; we have lots of fun on sets.

I love Ranbir; he has a bit of madness to himself, lot of fun and good energy to him. Akshay Kumar is a very encouraging co-star. When you work with him, he doesn’t think you are a girl. Whatever he does, he wants you to do it. That’s another good fun.

I have worked with so many people, all of them have been fun but John is the most boring person. He is very dedicated and an amazing boyfriend. But as a co-star I find him boring, may be he is different for others.

Rajeev Masand: Well best of luck, and thank you so much for joining us today. We are hoping that your film that opens up on Independence Day does very well and people appreciate it.
