Noida: There were reports of violence in Noida Phase-II during the trade unions' strike on Wednesday. Over 1,000 trade union workers protested and vandalised cars, setting vehicles on fire. The protestors even set fire to a fire engine.
The protestors also targeted industries that were opened in the area. Reports said that some workers of the industries were stranded inside.
Noida police said a demonstration by CPM trade union workers turned violent when the management did not come out to speak to them. They were agitating for an increase in wages. At least five vehicles were damaged in the violence in which a few policemen were also injured.
The situation was later brought under control by the police. Authorities also spoke to senior leaders of various trade union groups in the area to calm down the situation.
A witness to the violence in Noida, who works in the factory that got damaged, said, "The protestors came at the gate and wanted us to shut office. They broke glasses with bricks and stones."
