Do you ever miss those simple, family shows we used to watch on Doordarshan in the eighties? The ones we looked forward to every week and discussed with friends the following day? Well, there's good news if you do.
This weekend, relive those hilarious sitcoms of the eighties by catching up with one of the most popular ones of them all - Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi which featured Shafi Inamdar and Swaroop Sampat as Ranjit and Renu your next-door married couple, and Rakesh Bedi as Raja, the unemployed and single younger brother of Renu.
Looking back, I think what was special about the show was the fact that it found humour in everyday situations. It was a show that had its finger on the pulse of the audience.
Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi is now out on VCD from Shemaroo Entertainment, so buy yourself a copy and treat yourself to some nostalgia this Sunday.
Personally speaking, I remember it was a show I looked forward to on Friday nights, a show whose theme song we sang along with, never missing a beat. If you think about it, it's the show that introduced to us some wonderful comic actors like Satish Shah and Tiku Talsania.
Watching it again now is a whole new experience... Sure some of the jokes don't sound as funny today, and sure the laugh track is a little redundant, but can you really deny the simplicity of it?
