WB: Another girl teased, assaulted at Barasat

Barasat: A girl was allegedly teased and assaulted by a group of youths at Kajipara area of this headquarter town of North 24 Parganas district on Monday, the police said.

The girl was going to a shop at Sikipara locality when the youths passed lewd comments at her, the FIR lodged by the girl's father alleged.

When she protested, they started beating her up and was dragging her to somewhere when local people came to her rescue, the complaint said.

However, the five youths who were named in the FIR managed to flee.

The girl was admitted to Barasat hospital, the sources said adding raids were on the arrest the accused. On the night of July 27, a youth was caught teasing a girl and beaten up by people on a platform of Barasat railway station.

Actor turned Trinamool Congress MP Chiranjit Chakraborty courted controversy the next day by saying: "We should definitely work towards removing this stigma (eve-teasing) but again women can be a little more conscious about what they are wearing."
