Kolkata: For the last few days, campus violence has spiraled out of control in West Bengal. It's crunch time before next year's assembly elections.
The worried state governor MK Narayanan has stepped in - given the face-off between the ruling Left Front and opposition Trinamool Congress.
It's time for some answers for West Bengal chief minister before the real test next year. Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee called on Governor MK Narayanan on Tuesday evening to explain the deteriorating law and order situation of the state.
Campus violence between the Left parties and Trinamool Congress students' union has left one dead, many injured and spilled on to Bengal's streets.
Narayanan, also the chancellor of most universities in the state, is worried. The culture of political violence has come back to haunt the ruling Left just before their biggest test in the upcoming assembly elections. Narayanan wants Buddhadeb's government to take steps before the situation goes out of hand.
Both political parties playing politics over dead bodies till Monday, parading dead youngsters through the heart of Kolkata.
CPI-M's students' body, the SFI, held yet another rally in the city on Tuesday to register protest against the attack on their supporters. Clearly, no sides are willing to show any restraint.
