New Delhi: Reacting to the shocking incident of a Class 5 girl at the prestigious Visva-Bharati University in West Bengal being made to drink her own urine by her hostel warden as punishment for bedwetting, NCPCR Chairperson Shanta Sinha on Monday said that the guilty must be punished.

"It is a very shocking incident. The concerned warden should be punished for this act. She should be suspended," she said.

"We have written a letter to the government seeking action in the case. The action taken can range from dismissal to suspension to seeking explanation of her action," she added.

The NCPCR chairperson further said that there was a need to educate institutions about how to respond to such situations.

"We got to know of the incident yesterday. We will be sending the letter today and will give them a weeks time," Sinha said on Monday.
