New Delhi: West Bengal's Industry Minister Nirpupam Sen on Friday slammed the Opposition Trinamool Congress for issuing threats against Tata Motors.

"This is a highly irresponsible statement which is against the interests of the state," PTI quoted Sen as saying.

Sen, who played a major role in convincing Tata Motors to set up its small car plant in the state, said that such irresponsible comments send wrong signals about the state to investors.

Sen accused the Trinamool of double standards and said the party had made certain promises in its election manifesto but its actions went completely against this.

"This is most unfortunate that the Trinamool, which had promised industrialisation of West Bengal in its election manifesto, is opposing each and every industrial project in the state," he said.

Chatterjee had threatened Tata Motors with "serious consequences" for the comment of its managing director Ravi Kant that the company was not answerable to anybody for choosing Singur for its small car plant.
