New Delhi: West Bengal Home Secretary, Ardhendu Sen, earned the wrath of higher authorities on Saturday after he said in an interview to CNN-IBN that situations where deals had to be cut with the other side could arise.
West Bengal Chief Minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee lashed out at the Home Secretary saying his comments were not official but mere personal opinions.
When asked whether he was worried that the state had emboldened the Naxals to carry out more such attacks and that their policemen were even more vulnerable now after the latest kidnap and release drama of Atindranath Dutta, Sen had told CNN-IBN in an interview on India At 9: "That kind of a question turns up whenever such a situation comes, whether it's an attack on a police station or a hijack of a plane. Yes we are worried, but such situations can arise. The answer is to be prepared in such a way that such things cannot happen - whether they feel emboldened or not. If they feel emboldened we have to feel that we have to get our act together, we have to be much more alert than we were previously. So we should still come out on the winning side."
The Chief Minister of West Bengal reacted to this statement saying, "He (Sen) should not have said that. It was his personal opinion. It is not the official reaction of the state government."
