Kolkata: UPA Presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee has said he would meet MPs and MLAs of CPM and Forward Bloc in the West Bengal Assembly on Monday to seek their support for the July 19 Presidential poll.
"I am going to all states to seek support. I have already visited 14 to 15 states seeking support for my candidature. I will visit the other states too," Mukherjee said at his South Kolkata residence in Kolkata.
"I will meet MPs and MLAs of CPM and Forward Bloc, the two Left parties which have pledged support for me, tomorrow (Monday)," he said.
Mukherjee would also meet Congress MPs, MLAs from West Bengal after his meeting with the Left leaders. The meetings are scheduled to be held at the state Assembly.
Mukherjee, however, did not respond to a question on whether he would call on Mamata Banerjee seeking her support.
The Trinamool supremo had openly opposed Mukherjee's candidature for the post of the President and had also proposed other names for the post.
Relations between the Congress and the Trinamool Congress came under strain after the West Bengal Chief Minister decided to oppose the UPA's Presidential nominee.
Mukherjee will fight former Lok Sabha Speaker PA Sangma, backed by BJP and some other parties, in the election to be held on July 19. The counting of votes will take place on July 22.
