New Delhi: The Supreme Court reduced the death sentence of Santosh Singh to life imprisonment in the Priyadarshini Mattoo rape and murder case. CNN-IBN speaks to Priyadarshini's father after the judgement.

CNN-IBN: Sir the judgement is out. Are you happy with the judgement?

Chaman Lal Mattoo: We expected the Supreme Court would uphold the judgement by the High Court. It is a "rarest of the rare" case. The punishment has to be only the convict to be sent to the gallore. We had expected this and the civil society has been backing this for years. Work of the civil society and young boys and girls should not go waste.

CNN-IBN: It has been 14 years since the case. Do you think it is a long wait for you and your family to get the justice?

Chaman Lal Mattoo: Of course, I would call it as Ramji and Sitaji going banvas. Because, as I said earlier, the family and the civil society of both young and old throughout India and world have been working that perpetrator of such crime should get drastic punishment.
