New Delhi: BJP rebel Kalyan Singh’s son Rajvir Singh resigned from the Samajwadi Party (SP) on Sunday saying that he and his father were insulted by party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav.

"There is no point staying in a party where my father is not respected," says Kalyan Singh's son Rajvir.

"We were betrayed. We are ready to face any challenge. I didn't realise that I was being used," he adds.

In the presence of Kalyan Singh, Rajvir said he was resigning from the post of General Secretary and primary membership of the party.

Mulayam Singh on Saturday had sought to distance himself from Kalyan Singh but did not blame him for the reverses his party suffered in the by-elections in Uttar Pradesh for which he held the Congress responsible.

"Kalyan Singh was never a part of the Samajwadi Party, nor is he one today and let me also tell you that he will never be allowed to join our party," Mulayam Singh said at a press conference.

Asked how far he held Kalyan Singh responsible for his party's rout in the polls, Mulayam Singh preferred to attack the Congress instead.

Kalyan termed Mulayam Singh as a traitor and also hinted at rejoining the BJP.
