New Delhi: Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) chief Dr VK Saraswat expressed pride over the successful test-fire of India's Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Agni-V on Thursday. He said, "India has joined the elite group of nations. Who has these kind of capabilities? This is a proud moment for India. We are today a missile power. It is a major milestone."
Saraswat also said that DRDO will conduct two more tests of the missile. "We are going to conduct two more tests. These will be validation tests. We have a very tight schedule on the tests," he said.
Talking about the ballistic missile, Saraswat said that more than 80 per cent of the missile was indigenous. "It sends out a message to the whole world that India can now develop and manufacture strong missiles on its own," he said.
India on Thursday successfully test-fired the 5000-km range surface-to-surface Agni-V Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) capable of covering entire China and reaching deep into Europe. Agni-V has helped India gatecrash into a small and exclusive club of nations with intercontinental ballistic missile capability.
"We had a successful launch. The launch went off at 8:07 am. The launch was tracked by three ships located at 5,000 kms in the sea," Saraswat said.
