Pune: As the temperatures keep rising across north India, all eyes are on the monsoon. And the Met Department has some good news for all.

Monsoon is hitting the country a week earlier than usual and will reach Kerala by May 24.

“It’s a large journey for monsoon, starts mid May and covers the country in two months’ time,” Dr A B Majumdar, Deputy Director General of met weather forecasting:

Monsoon will hit Karnataka and Goa in the first week of June. Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh are expected to get rains by the second week of June.

And by mid-July, entire north India is expected to get rained in.

However, Met Department cautions that any change in wind patterns will affect the continuation of monsoon.

“A cyclonic storm which crossed Bangladesh has caused disruption in the monsoon flow,” says Majumdar.

The good news, according to experts, is that the country will receive 95 per cent of normal rainfall this year.
