Cromwell, Connecticut: Webb Simpson, the 2012 US Open winner, will not participate in the upcoming British Open due to the birth of his second child.

The 25-year-old American has passed on a chance to become just the seventh golfer to win the US Open and British Open in the same year.

"After winning it's certainly a little bit harder to not go," Simpson told reporters at the Travelers Championship. "But in the grand scheme of life, it's a decision I know I'll always be happy I made."

The US Open winner\'s wife is due to deliver the couple\'s second child in late July.

Simpson's wife Dowd, who was present when he won the US Open on Sunday, is entering her final month of pregnancy with a due date in late July.

Theoretically, Simpson could play both tournaments. The British Open runs from July 19-22 and he could fly from Royal Lytham & St. Annes to the USA to be with his wife. However, Simpson does not want to risk being unable to return quickly in the event of early labour.
