Website for Muslims allows only halal search

New Delhi: The search for religious-based websites may finally be coming to an end. Releasing in the month of Ramazan is a search engine especially for Muslims.

www.Imhalal.com is not your usual search engine. Here, you can only search for things that are 'halal' or allowed in Islam. Try searching for 'haram' or forbidden things and you get a warning on your screen.

Seventeen-year old Reza claims he created this website to prevent people from "accidentally" bumping into explicit content.

Not only does it block the 'haram' content but also grades the search terms on the scale of 1 to 3. A warning of 1 or 2 means that the if the user thinks that the result will be clean they can still search for whatever they are searching for. A warning of 3 out of 3 means that the user can't go ahead.

So a search for words likes 'rape' or 'porn' will give you a warning of 3. Words like 'adultery' and 'sodomy' will give a warning of 2, while 'wine' and 'witchcraft' will give a warning of 1.

Not just acts but even sexy celebrities cannot be searched for, so a Britney Spears or a Pamela Anderson will also give a warning of 1.

The website is just about 15 days old and maybe that's why there are words like 'music', 'cosmetics' and 'tattoo' that are considered 'Haram' in Islam yet pop up results. The website claims they have got 2,70,000 users till date but there are people who are beginning to feel that this is a form of censorship.

Author Shabnam Hashmi, however, thinks otherwise and says, "I think it is funny."

The website owner wants to make this site more Islamic by giving better results for keywords that are Islam related. If you are not a Muslim, however, it might not be of any use to you.
