Websites to contest TV over Obama swearing in

New Delhi: The TV industry will have stiff competition from websites tonight whilst the US President-elect Barack Obama takes over as the new President of the United States of America. One of the most tech savvy president is using new media to get his inauguration to your desk top.

If you're the sort who'd rather surf than watch TV - get this. Obama's inauguration could well be the biggest online event ever.

Live streaming inaugural video on every American TV channels website - that you'd expect. But CNN lets you embed those videos on your Facebook page and message your friends while you're watching it.

Perfect if you've got cousins in the states or if your friends here are crazy about Obama.

Of course, if you're in the states, you'd use pic2009.org - Obama's official page.

It has maps to tonight's biggest parties, twitter updates, YouTube videos, Flickr slideshows - the works.

CNN's also asked everyone at the event to click a photo at the precise instant Obama takes an oath.

They'll then use software to stitch all those photos together and make a three-dimensional image of a moment in history.

After the inauguration, check out this site. Obama and Indian origin actor Kal Penn are asking people to upload videos to YouTube - with their ideas on how to Renew America.

Finally, if you get an email that claims "Obama refuses to be President", DO NOT click on it. It has a virus that will take over your PC and send all your friends spam mail.

So today evening, surf the web to watch Obama. But do it safely.
