Wedded but Sarkozy hasn't got a honeymoon for long

Carla Bruni calls herself “a tamer of men” and has described monogamy as boring.

But on Saturday, just three months after their first meeting, super model-turned-pop singer Bruni chose exchanged wedding vows with French President Nicolas Sarkozy. The marriage itself was quite low-key: a 20-minute ceremony at the Elysee Palace, the official residence of the French president.

"It was a moving ceremony. It was like any other ceremony. He did not say anything in particular. They exchanged rings. They were very moved," said Francois Lebel, Mayor OF Paris’ 8th District, who conducted the wedding ceremony.

Sarkozy started seeing Bruni soon after he divorced his second wife and the two were soon a hot subject for the paparazzi wherever they went. Now, the marriage ends the protocol nightmares that resulted from the couple's love affair and is likely to be embraced by the romantic French.

However, in the last two months, Sarkozy's popularity has dropped considerably in France, both because of his failure to revive the country's ailing economy and what has been called the “Carla effect”. The marriage hopefully will help the President put his house in order.
