New Delhi: Ranveer came drawn by horses, Rajesh had to ride one on his own.
It's wedding season again and Delhi witnessed over 15,000 weddings on Sunday, the first most auspicious day on the wedding calendar. Some met their soulmates in sprawling farmhouses while others had to settle for places close to their homes.
"We could not find a place as there is a rush. But we have managed a good arrangement here," said the mother of a bride, who tied the knot on Sunday.
In an auspicious alignment of celestial bodies on Sunday, when Jupiter - the planet for husbands - met Venus - the planet for wives – met, the effect was felt down here on earth. Over 15,000 weddings in Delhi meant traffic snarls were a common sight across the city.
"We have no option. The wedding is in close family. So have to stand in the queue," said a young Delhiite stuck in a traffic jam on his way to a wedding. Having learnt lessons from last year when the city had come to a standstill during the wedding season, the Delhi police had come prepared this time around.
The season, which kicked off on Sunday will continue through December 13 and Delhiites will continue celebrating weddings in style.
Meanwhile, the wedding season also meant brisk business for some. "We earlier used to charge Rs 400 for decorating a car. Now we are charging just the double," said a flourist.
But the brides and grooms are not complaining. "I am happy and nervous at the same time," said a bride on way to her wedding venue.
