Click to play videoNew Delhi: The biggest and most grand of all Indian weddings continues to be that of Steel baron LN Mittal's daughter Vanisha's, which Forbes magazine tagged as the most opulent wedding of the century.
It is estimated that the wedding, held in 2004, cost $60 million (over Rs 250 crore).
The five-day bash was held in France had flown in over a 1,000 guests from across the globe. Some of the highlights of the wedding were the 20-page invitation cards in silver boxes, the best of world cuisine, a party at the Palace of Versailles and not to forget the goody bags for friends and relatives.
To give the Mittal’s competition came the wedding of New York based hotelier Vikram Chatwal and model Priya Sachdev last year.
The wedding festivities were stretched over seven nights, three Indian cities and 25 parties. The flowers were flown in from Holland, dozens of models were imported from New York, and three jets were chartered to ferry the 300-plus guests across the subcontinent.
The Chatwal-Sachdev wedding celebrations kicked off in Mumbai, carried over to Udaipur and concluded in Delhi with a guest list of the rich and famous from New York and Los Angeles including former US President Bill Clinton.
