Fine Print: Kama Sutra
Once you have got over the giggling fit of flipping through a book full of naked pictures, Pavan Varma’s Kama Sutra: The Art Of Making Love To a Woman transforms itself into a man’s point of view on the “Hindu world view on desire” as Varma puts it.
The importance of desire or kama while striving to reach moksh in life holds great importance in the book.
But if you thought that you had heard this before, then you can always look at the pictures!

State of the Art: An eye on Binod Behari
Remembered as an eminent artist, Binod Behari Mukherjee helped make Santiniketan, the most important centre of art in India from 1920 onwards. He left his mark through the murals.
He started with sketches, watercolours, moved to tempera on wood, works on silk, textile block prints and finally to paper cut works.
He turned completely visually disabled after his paper cut work range of work called ‘The Inner Eye’. This inspired director Satyajit so much that he made a 22-minute film on the works.
In this centenary retrospective exhibition, the digital reproductions of murals from Santiniketan are surely the biggest attraction.
"Among his other mural, the ceiling that he painted is in a very poor condition. But just like old black and white photos can be revived with digital connection, it can create the entire ceiling in the exact size as it is in Santiniketan,” says artist, Gulammohammed Sheikh.
To get a slice of art history and learn how his works remained untouched by a strong European influence in his times, stop over at the NGMA.
