Dull, gloomy, boring... if these are the words that come to mind when you think of your home, then it is time for a revamp. Here are 10 quick fix tips for a brighter look.
Try a focus wall in colours like lime green, yellow, or aquamarine. You could even add on vibrant paintings. Just make sure not to crowd the wall.
If you don't want to go through the hassle of painting, use wallpaper. Ones with scenic landscapes, meadows or beaches work well.
Allow as much natural light to enter the room. Use drapes in thinner fabrics like organza or satin silk. If you already have thick and heavy drapes, add lace sheers behind them. This way the drapes can be drawn during the day.
Venetian blinds are another great way to ensure your privacy and allow light to stream in.
Don't depend on just one big light for the entire room. You could do with a couple of light pendants or wall fixtures in passageways and corners as well.
Mirrors reflect light and are a great way to brighten up a room. You could have a mirror wall or a couple of unique mirrors on one wall.
There is nothing like a plant to add some life to a dull room. Try potted plants in the window grill or a flowerpot on the coffee table.
You could also try potpourri or dry foliage. The best part is that this doesn't need any maintenance.
For dark coloured upholstery, simply add on colourful throw cushions. If your home has an ethnic style decor, use mirror work cushions.
Printed cloth lampshades or ones with cutwork lend a soft glow to the room and make it look cosy too.
If you prefer the dazzling effect, go with coloured glass or brass lanterns.
Bring out those curios that you picked up on your last holiday. You could add photo frames.
If your tiles have lost their sheen, throw on a couple of colourful carpets and dhurries (rugs). You can buy them from various handloom exhibitions.
When you have guests over, place a couple of tea lights around the house. But don't place them next to anything flammable.
