Kolkata: Three more infants have died in the past 24 hours in the Malda Medical college in West Bengal. This has taken the death toll to 22 since Saturday.
The state government has rushed the Chairman of Task Force of Infant Mortality to Malda. The hospital said the three babies were suffering from birth asphyxia and hypothermia.
Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare AH Khan Choudhury intervened on Tuesday and was monitoring the situation. The CMO visited the hospital to take stock of the situation. The same hospital had reported 27 infant deaths earlier in 2012.
